Shared Core Values

What are Shared Core Values?
Shared Core Values are deeply held convictions that determine our actions. They are Core because they represent the things that we feel we must do in order to be faithful to the call that God has placed upon us here at Calvary Baptist Church. They Shared because there are many excellent values deeply held by the family here at Calvary, but these are the ones that the church leadership has prayerfully agreed upon as at the core of who we are and who God wants us to be. They are not doctrinal beliefs, though they do reflect our theology. These are the things that we feel we will be held accountable by God to have been faithfully working toward when we stand before Him.

The Bible is Truth:
We believe the Bible, the Word of God, is truth and affirm its authority in our lives. The Bible tells us all we need to know about our faith and how to please God through right belief and right action. Calvary is a place where we focus on the Word of God and everyone can learn about God and how to please Him. (2 Tim. 3:1617)

Prayer:
We value prayer as a way of aligning ourselves with God and acknowledging our dependence on Him in all matters. In our own strength, we can do nothing for God, but with His strength, we can do anything He wills. We believe prayer moves the hand of God, but prayer is not us getting what we want from God. At Calvary, we seek to align ourselves with God through prayer so that He can do what He wants in us and through us. (John 15:57)

Life Changing Growth:
We want to be engaged in Life Changing Growth toward unity and the likeness of Christ. This kind of change will only happen as the Spirit of God works through the Word of God to change our lives. Calvary is a place where we seek to become not only more righteous in our lifestyle, but more loving and graceful toward others. (Eph. 4:1116)

Family:
We value the family as a place of love, training, and support for all. Our roles as husbands and wives, parents and children, brothers and sisters, grandparents and others, are part of how God teaches us of His love for us and how God shapes us into Christ’s image. Glorifying God in our family roles and relationships will be a high priority for our lives together because it will mark us as people who live in the power of the one true God. Calvary will seek to grow strong families and be a family for those who need one in their lives. (Eph. 5:216:4)

Authenticity:
We want to be real and honest with one another as we grow together in our love for Jesus. None of us is perfect, and we don’t expect perfection any time in this life. Our commitment is to help one another grow in Christ, starting where each one is at in his or her walk with God. We will avoid pretending and hypocrisy and seek after integrity with humility in our interactions with one another. Calvary is a place where honest, accountable relationships will help us all to keep growing as children of God. (James 5:16; Heb. 10:2425)

Relationships:
We want our relationships with one another to be characterized by love and trust. Positive relationships are a vital necessity in our lives. We seek to love one another, build up one another, meet one another’s needs, bear one another’s burdens, and share our lives with one another in the power of God. Calvary is a place where relationships like these are how we will show the reality of our love for God. (John 13:35; 1 John 4:78)

Service:
We value service to others as a measure of our love for Christ and our obedient growth toward His likeness. Jesus Himself came not to be served, but to serve. Selfless service done joyfully shows the love of God and is a means of communicating God’s love both to the saved and the lost. Calvary is a place where selfless service gets the attention of a world that is weary of religion. (Mark 10:45)

Outreach:

We have been sent by Jesus into the world to share the love of God at home and abroad just as Jesus Himself was sent into the world by God. He has called us to share His message with others. Calvary will be a place where we actively share the gospel with our friends and family, in genuine relationships of love and respect. (John 17:18; Matt. 28:1820)
